The importance of a company vision

Dean Weston

We recently created a new strategic plan for Progress Fire Co., and as part of this process, we reviewed and updated our vision statement.

Put simply, a vision is the mental picture of the future you desire. More than just a goal, a company vision is the embodiment of your hopes and dreams for your business.

If you nail your company vision, passion is sure to follow. And when it comes to inspiring and motivating your team, helping to build genuine passion with a united vision is key.

While it’s always challenging to find the time for such projects, I don’t think there’s a company director or CEO on the planet who wouldn’t thoroughly enjoy the strategic planning process.

It forces you to get your head out of the day-to-day and look to the future of your company. It takes planning, time, and consideration. It’s essential.

Back to our strategic planning process.

Covid has impacted our industry in many ways. Some positive, some not so positive, but one thing we all know for sure is that the old normal will never return.

So, almost three years into Covid, it was important for us to review our vision, mission, purpose, values and objectives.

And I found the creation of our company vision the most exciting part of the process.

Progress Fire Co.’s new vision statement is:

“To be the trusted partner in fire safety and protection for the construction industry in Southeast Queensland through the delivery of exceptional fire system design and installation, and a commitment to genuine collaboration with our clients.”

How will we achieve this vision? By continuing to deliver the highest quality service to our clients. By building genuine, mutually beneficial relationships built on trust. And by adhering to our new company values.

We are so proud of our team. Of the work we deliver. Of the relationships we have built within the industry and the reputation we have developed.

We know that our company vision should establish something on the horizon that is out of our comfort zone, challenging us to stretch ourselves while being somewhat attainable.

We all have our eye on this prize. We all know it can be done.

It’s important to note that while visions are driven by passion and dreams, they are reflected through real efforts to create real results. To do the work and leave it sitting in a Word document on your computer is redundant.

You have to work out how you can make your strategic plan live and breathe. And how you’re going to work together to achieve it.

How you can ensure your team isn’t just aware of your vision but buys into it and lives and breathes it every day.

That’s where we are at right now in the process.

So, I’d like to know … how do you make your company vision the star of your organisation?

Dean Weston  Last weekend, while enjoying the sunshine, working in the yard, I let my mind wander to some of the incredible developments I’ve had the pleasure to work on during my career in fire services and safety, which has spanned several decades.    It was great to take a trip down memory lane, as it’s […]
